Creating a Custom Component Library: Why Precision Matters

Custom component libraries guarantee that your PCB footprints/ symbols are exact matches for their real-part counterparts. If there is any inconsistency in pad sizes and/or spacing between pads or pin mapping during assembly, then there could be failures at assembly, poor solder joints, or total failure of the board after assembly. Make sure you create a footprint for a part using the manufacturer's data sheet & per IPC; check that the pin numbering, clearance of courtyard, & mechanical fit of the 3D model are validated before beginning the design. Create consistency in naming & version control to avoid confusion on larger projects.
