Why I Default to Aluminum 6061 for Almost Everything

For most hobby projects, 6061 just feels like the “safe default.”

Why:

• affordable
• easy to machine
• strong enough
• anodizes well
• hard to completely mess up

Unless:

• you really need strength → 7075
• ultra light weight → carbon fiber
• electrical insulation → POM

…it’s hard to go wrong with 6061.
