Why I Default to Aluminum 6061 for Almost Everything

For most hobby projects, 6061 just feels like the “safe default.”

Why:

affordable

easy to machine

strong enough

anodizes well

hard to completely mess up

Unless:

you really need strength → 7075

ultra light weight → carbon fiber

electrical insulation → POM

…it’s hard to go wrong with 6061.
