A Mounting Hole Is More Than Just a Hole
Mounting holes are often added near the end of a PCB layout, but they can influence much more than mechanical assembly.
Besides supporting the PCB inside an enclosure, mounting holes affect component placement, copper clearance, and routing around the board edge. In some designs, they also serve as a Frame Ground (FG) connection to improve grounding between the PCB and the chassis.
Because of that, the area around a mounting hole deserves the same attention as any other part of the layout. A well-planned mounting hole isn't just a mechanical feature; it can also become part of the overall electrical and manufacturing design.
