When routing cables along moving axes, the most common failure is fatigue from repeated bending. To prevent this, always use a cable carrier (drag chain) designed for the travel length and bend radius. Ensure the carrier is properly supported and guided to avoid sagging or kinking.

For rotary axes, create a service loop with a minimum bend radius at least 10 times the cable diameter. Avoid sharp edges by using grommets or protective sleeving where cables pass through panels or brackets. Secure cables at both ends with strain relief to prevent tension transfer to connections.

In high-speed applications, consider cables with continuous flex ratings. Keep all cables, hoses, and wires inside the carrier to prevent snagging. Route cables away from heat sources and sharp chips. A little planning upfront saves hours of troubleshooting later.
