Why did some components suddenly become more expensive? Weren't they cheaper before?

I noticed that some resistors and capacitors I used to order have gone up in price recently, so I did a little digging.

It turns out this isn't just happening on JLCPCB—it's affecting the entire electronics industry. With the rapid growth of AI hardware, many component manufacturers have shifted production capacity toward higher-demand products. As a result, the supply of general-purpose resistors and capacitors has tightened, pushing prices up across the market.

From what I understand, JLCPCB simply follows the latest supplier pricing rather than adding extra markup. Hopefully, prices will become more stable as supply catches up.

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?
