Verify CNC Program Accuracy Before Production in 3 Steps
Running a CNC program without verification can lead to costly crashes or scrapped parts. Before production, take these steps to ensure accuracy. First, perform a dry run with no material in the machine. Use the machine's graphics simulation or run the program in air with the Z-axis raised. This checks tool paths, rapid moves, and potential collisions.
Second, enable single block mode and run the program step by step. At each line, verify the coordinates, feedrate, and spindle speed against your CAM output. Pay special attention to tool length offsets and work offsets. This catches typos or incorrect offset calls.
Finally, after the first part is cut, manually measure critical features with calipers or a CMM. Compare these measurements to the CAD model. Confirm that the first part matches within tolerance before proceeding with full production. These simple checks save time and money in the long run.
