When a cable moves with a machine component, lack of strain relief causes repeated bending at a single point. Over time, wires break inside the insulation, leading to intermittent faults or sudden failure. This is especially common in robots, linear actuators, and CNC gantries.

Always secure cables near the point of flex. Use clamps or tie-downs to prevent the cable from pulling at its connector. Allow enough slack for full motion, but not so much that the cable can snag or rub against edges.

For continuous flexing, implement a cable carrier or energy chain. These guides maintain a controlled bend radius and distribute fatigue along the cable length. Without them, even high-flex cables fail prematurely.

Finally, choose cables rated for flexing. Standard PVC cables crack quickly under cyclic stress. Use continuous-flex or robotic cables with braided shielding and fine-strand conductors. Proper management doubles or triples system uptime.
