One CAD Collaboration Tip: Version Everything

The biggest source of CAD collaboration pain is working on the wrong version. Your teammate's changes go missing because you opened the file before they saved. The fix is simple: always use a shared system that tracks versions, like a PDM tool or a cloud drive with file history.

Treat the shared location as the only source of truth. Before you start, check that you have the latest version. After every meaningful change, save and sync immediately. Write a short comment describing what you did. This gives context to others and makes it easy to roll back if needed.

Avoid working on a local copy for hours or days. The longer you stay offline, the more likely you'll overwrite someone else's work. If you must work offline, merge your changes back as soon as possible and clearly communicate what you've modified.
