Spending five minutes on daily checks cuts unplanned downtime and extends machine life. This habit pays off more than any repair you'll do later. Focus on the basics that cause most failures.

Check fluid levels first: hydraulic, coolant, and lubricating oil. Low fluid leads to overheating and pump damage. Top up to spec and look for leaks underneath the machine that explain where the fluid went.

Inspect belts and hoses for cracks, fraying, or loose tension. A broken belt stops production instantly. Press on each belt to feel for proper slack, and replace any hose that feels brittle or shows bulges.

Confirm that all safety guards are in place and that emergency stops click firmly when pressed. These protect your people and your liability. Test the spindle brake and axis locks if your machine has them.

Finally, wipe away chips and debris from moving parts, ways, and the coolant tank area. Then run a warm-up program to bring everything to operating temperature. This flushes out any remaining issues before you cut real parts.
