Repeatability in sensors often comes down to mounting. If the sensor moves between readings, your data is noise. Here are three details that make a big difference.

First: Face-mount on a flat, machined surface. Never mount a sensor to a painted or uneven surface. A spot face or a ground pad gives the sensor a stable reference. If the surface is not flat, the housing distorts and the sensing element shifts.

Second: Use a dowel pin or a machined shoulder for location. Screws are for clamping, not alignment. A precision dowel pin locates the sensor consistently, so removing and reinstalling it gives the same position every time.

Third: Torque the fasteners to spec. Under-tightening lets the sensor vibrate; over-tightening distorts the housing. Use a calibrated torque wrench and a thread locker if the application has vibration. This keeps the preload consistent.

These details take minutes to implement but save hours of calibration. For high-accuracy systems, treat the sensor mount like a precision fixture.
