Use a Clamp-On Stop Block for Identical Cuts
When you need to cut many pieces to the same length, measuring each time wastes time and invites error. A simple stop block jig fixes this.
Take a scrap block of wood and clamp it to your saw fence at the desired distance from the blade. Set the block so it sits slightly away from the fence, about a quarter inch. This gap lets sawdust escape and prevents the workpiece from being held off the fence.
To use, slide the workpiece against the stop block and the fence, then make your cut. After each cut, pull the piece back and slide the next one in. The stop remains fixed, so every part comes out exactly the same length.
Confirm the stop is secure and periodically check the length, as the block can shift from vibration. This jig works on miter saws, table saws, and radial arm saws, and takes two minutes to set up.
